Warming To An Unfamiliar Golf Course

Generally, your average avid golfer does not see very much variation in courses. Since costs and memberships can vary from place to place, it is often hard for any golfer to regularly visit more than a few courses. So if you are going on a vacation specifically for golfing, it can be very exciting to encounter completely new, beautiful, and interesting golf courses.

When you are on vacation and encounter beautiful new golf courses, you might be slightly disgruntled by the higher prices. They could be quite a bit higher than what you’re used to back at home! However, you shouldn't let this discourage you from trying these new experiences. A vacation is a time especially for you to enjoy yourself more than usual, and even if it costs some extra cash you should still do so.

Sometimes being in the new golfing environment is a slight shock to golfers who are used to just a few home courses. It can sometimes be slightly hard to get used to doing well in these new places, and vacationing golfers will end up doing substantially poorer than usual. So what can a vacationing golfer do to adjust quicker to these new holes? There is no particular solution and sometimes it simply has to do with the particular golfer’s ability to cope. However, I've learned a few tricks in my days to help adjust to new courses.

You should always show up fairly early on your first day at your hotel. don't jump right into the golfing just yet. You should show up early enough to have a leisurely meal at the course and browse through the clubhouse. If you spend a few hours on the driving range hitting balls, you will loosen up and become more comfortable with this new area. After this you can spend a bit of time on the putting greens. The lawn care habits of this golf course might be a little different than those at your home, so it’s best to familiarize yourself with the unique physics of the grass.

Just remember that the best way to do well on a new and unfamiliar course is to warm up to it first and hit some balls around before you start the actual game. As long as you feel at home and comfortable, you should have a great scorecard even if you have never seen the course before in your life.
